PLASTER AND PAINT WITH JUDY WISE
Plaster is such a delicious texture to work with when you paint. It can be applied thinly, or applied with lots of texture. Judy Wise will show you how to create the texture you desire and then add luscious layers using acrylic, cold wax, or both!
Kathie first proposed this class to me as a class using Venetian plaster and cold wax. Because of the ease of clean up and transport, I suggested that we could do most of the same things with acrylic that we could do with cold wax. It is my own personal preference but additionally I sometimes work the underlayers in acrylic and then switch to cold wax.
The supplies for each approach is similar and I will demo both mediums so you can gain insight into which direction future work may take you. I will also bring samples of each.
Having said that, we will create an underlayer of Venetian plaster on which we will paint. This product is not true Venetian plaster, which is made out of limestone, ground marble dust and natural pigment, but an acrylic product which is harder and less porous than joint compound and buffs to a beautiful sheen that resembles marble. It can be stenciled, spread over acrylic paint, layered, and incised into to create textured effects. Let’s join forces and make magic together with this lovely product.
